CHANGE OF A PERSON (BLOG 8) (Last one)
How does Sheila Change?
I think that Sheila is changes the most in the play. I think this because she turns from being the stereotypical
early 19th century child who remains by her parents rules and does as her parents say, to become more independent.
At the beginning of the play Sheila is rich, indecent, and arrogant and is unable to control her bad temper. For example she gets into a bad mood in a store and after storms out of the store, because she was jealous of Eva Smith, who looked good in a nice dress.
At the end of the book, she begins telling her parents what she thinks about them and gives her opinions and feelings about the events in the play.
I think, it`s important to say what you feel, otherwise you will never get to a unique personality and you never can decide about your own life.

ANALYSIS (BLOG 7
Write
about the style of writing the author uses.
J.B.
PRIESTLEY
Theres a up and down in the Play. Sometimes it was a little
bit difficult for me because he use an upscale english in the book. There were
a lot of words i had to translate into german. The book is written in direct
speech and it makes it not easier. The stage directions were also a bit
confusing. This book was the first in form of a play i have ever read and
probably the last one. I think it belongs to the genre "Well-made"
Play because it is concerned with something that happened in the past. Also
confusing is the uncertainty, the not knowing what happened really. I think the
author tries to get confusion in the readers minds. And with my brain he did it
for real.
There are also many repetitions, that reinforced the meaning in the book or also in the play.
In the end, it was a great book and i lerned a lot of new stuff.

RECOUNT (BLOG 5)
In
Your own words what has happened in the book?
The beginning has five rich
people sitting down to dinner with the daughter in the family, Sheila,
announcing her engagement to Gerald, who is obviously approved of by the
family. The son, Eric, is obviously a cynic. Lots of time is spent having the
camera over all of the food. The reason why will be obvious later. The father,
Mr. Birling, says that the young people are marrying at a time of great
prosperity and that war is impossible in 1912, that the world is changing too
fast for war. Then he says that the family must try and stay out of the scandal
sheets since he is expecting to be appointed to an important post and with
Sheila's marriage. He really says this last part jokingly, as if anybody in
that room could do something scandalous.
Out of nowhere a police inspector
appears in the dining room doorway. They even mention why he didn't knock. He
says he is there because a young woman has just died of poisoning and he needs
to ask them a few questions. He says he is not sure if it is suicide or murder.
He goes to each family member in turn and shows them a photo of the girl but
does not show the same photo to anybody else. Each person remembers the girl,
and each did something - sometimes a very small thing just because that person
was having a bad day - that led the dead girl on the road to ruin, ultimately
placing her in a situation where she was desperate and felt she had no out but
suicide. She was young, pretty, and smart, but she had no real family and no
money, putting herself at the impression of the upper classes. After all of the
revelations, Gerald goes outside for a walk to calm down and runs into a
policeman he knows where he learns a shocking fact. The end is very intresting
and surprised. That completes the movie.

CHARACTERIZATION (BLOG 4)
Describe
a character from the book (e.g. physical characteristics, personality, likes,
dislikes. Say why you like or dislike the character.
Eva
Smith:
- You will never see Eva Smith on stage in the play – The only information about her is given to us by the Inspector and the Birlings.
- All oft them (the Inspector, Sheila Gerald and Eric) describes her as „pretty“. Except Gerald, he says that she is very pretty with her soft brown hair and big dark eyes.
I really like the
mysterious side of her, because i like exciting women.
General
information about her:
- Her parents were dead
- She came from outside Brumley
- Mr Birgling describes her as a typical patriot
- She was working class
The Inspector has a sort of diary, wich helped him piece
together the last two years of her live.
In Act 3 we begin to wonder whether Eva ever really existed.
After the phone call of a police inspector, who is coming to the Birlings house to investigate the suicide of a young girl makes me think that eva smith did exist after all.

I think her name has something incommon with the Bible.

EMPATHY (BLOG 3)
Write
down 5 questions you would like to ask the author. Say why you would like to
ask these questions.
- Why did you write exactly this book?
- Do you want to convey something with this book?
- Why did you decide to write a end like this?
- Is this film based on a true story?
- What are the most important things to write a high quality book?
I would ask these questions, because I really like this book.
I think that he wants to deliver a message.
The most exciting part of the book is the end. It could also
have been another one and that makes
me wonder, why he wrote exactly an end like this.
me wonder, why he wrote exactly an end like this.
Maybe the film based on a true story and he processes
feelings. I saw „13 REASONS WHY“. I think this Movie can be compared with „ An
Inspector calls“. These days, this problems come more and more and it is just
sad to hear something like that.
I really like to write. So maybe I will become a great
writer in my fututre. He certainly could give me some good advices.

REFLECTION (BLOG 2)
At
any point, write about how you feel while reading a section of the book or. Say
how what is happening makes you feel and why?
I read the Part of the book, where Eric
Birgling and Eva Smith had an affair:
The first time, Eric Birgling met Eva Smith
in a bar. They drank together. After, they made love and Eva became pregnant.
They said that he raped her.
I felt sad while reading this section of the
book. We don`t know if it is true or even not. But a rape is something very
bad. And the girl can`t do anything.
In the serie „13 Reasons Why“ there is a rape too. And in most cases, this rape is the reason for a suicide. We should fight against this

In this part, there are a lot of feelings and
this makes the book exciting. In my opinion, Eric Birgling and Eva Smith had a
special, but good releationsship and i think there wasn`t a rape.

REFLECTION (BLOG 1)
Write
down your first imressions of the book or play. Ask some questions. Write down
quotations. Copy whole passages that are difficult or that you really like a
lot.
My first impressions of the book are very
diverse. I think that this book will become interesting, because there are
many characteres, who are individual and that makes it exciting.
First, i have a few questions which i
want to answer, after i read the book:
What is the most important thing in this
story?
Which characteres are important?
Who belongs to the good characteres and who
belongs to the bad ones?
What does the book want to convey?
Who is responsible?
How does the book end?
Whole passages that are difficult or that i
really like a lot:
- Act
1, page 9, row 3
Eric: "I dont know - really. Suddenly i felt I just had to laugh".
I really like the hole page, beacause Eric is joking around and Sheila doesn`t like it really
- Act
1, page 18,19, starts with row 9
Edna: "Please, sir, an inspector`s called".
In this pages, the inspector comes in and talk about a young lady, who killed herself.
In the beginning of "An inspector calls", I think that this Scene is very important for the story.
